Welcome. I’m happy to see you here.

McKenzie Haenke, CSWA

Mental Health Clinician / Clinical Social Work Associate – Not Licensed

I am McKenzie, a licensed Therapist.

My Name is McKenzie Haenke (she/her) and I’m a mental health clinician at Positive Inner Self. I’m a registered Clinical Social Work Associate (#A12703) currently working towards licensure. I specialize in working with adults and adolescents that struggle with depression, anxiety, self-esteem issues, trauma/abuse, life transitions, and relationship/communication concerns. I also thoroughly enjoy working with ex-pats, immigrants, and international students, as I lived abroad for many years and understand the challenges (and joys!) of adjusting to a new culture.

I utilize interventions such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Motivational Interviewing, Mindfulness, and other strengths-based approaches. You are the expert in your own life, so I will work with you side by side to determine a treatment plan that best aligns with your personality and goals.

What is EMDR?

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is a highly researched, effective psychotherapy method proven to help people recover from trauma and other distressing life experiences (both minor and major), such as abuse, sexual assault, phobias, nightmares, childhood rejection, family conflict, and more. EMDR utilizes bilateral stimulation (through eye movements or rhythmic tapping) to help the brain process and resolve traumatic memories. EMDR therapy does not require talking in detail about the traumatic event or completing homework in between sessions. A typical EMDR therapy session lasts from 60-90 minutes.

What can I expect if I come to see you?

It is my #1 priority to ensure that you feel safe, supported, and valued throughout counseling. My approach is gentle, compassionate, nonjudgmental, and person-centered. I genuinely care about your healing and growth and will create a safe space for you to process your thoughts and feelings, as well as develop self-compassion and healthy coping skills.

It’s important to find a therapist that’s a good fit. Here’s what you can expect if you come to see me!

Initially, we will meet to discuss your concerns and ensure that I am a good fit for your needs. We will go through the presenting issues and develop a treatment plan that meets your and your family’s needs. For young children, I will meet with the parents individually at first. I enjoy using humor and playfulness to create a relaxed environment.
