Couples Counseling

Couples Therapy can be expansive and wonderful and lonely and disorientating and sometimes all these things at once. Couples come to therapy for several reasons and the hope is to get a better understanding of who the couple is by unpacking how they came to be. Some common reasons for a couple’s work are life transitions, work-life balance, failing to connect, infertility/IVF/adoption, parenting styles and differences, infidelity, contemplating long-term commitment, and orchestrating morals and values of self and then as the couple together.

Couples counseling while challenging can be useful in helping you identify what you are wanting and needing within one of your primary relationships. It is beneficial in exploring root causes of conflict between two people. To help the relationship heal and grow, it is imperative to focus on learning positive communication skills. It can be instrumental in facilitating mutual respect, consideration, and building trust. These skills can also be gained to help couples who are moving toward marriage to help strengthen the bond prior to making the commitments, used to help facilitate a positive divorce experience, or gain trust and communication when wanting to transition to/from an open relationship/marriage.
